Austcorp is participating in an important global warming initiative - Earth Hour - taking place in Australia and around the world on March 29 2008, when cities around the world will turn off their lights for one hour to show that it's possible to take action on global warming.
All households, communities and businesses are being invited to turn their lights off for one hour at 8pm on March 29 2008. Austcorp will be turning off the lights in their buildings, seeing this event as a great symbolic gesture to indicate that action can be taken to reduce climate change while also demonstrating their commitment to corporate social responsibility.
Further evidence of Austcorp’s environmental vision can be seen by their uptake of the program run by the Willoughby Council "Sustainability Advantage" www.willoughby.nsw.gov.au/Sustainable-Business.html.
Developed recently by the NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change and being undertaken by over 100 of the top companies in NSW it features several modules that the participating company can select to aid their development of more ecologically sustainable business practices.
The program seeks to assist business to develop and deliver a sustainable vision for their future in a world where the focus for business sustainability is undergoing a paradigm shift towards lessening environmental impacts and improving social responsibility.
Austcorp is currently undertaking modules aimed at increasing resource efficiency and developing goals and policies for sustainable improvement and greater community involvments.
